The banning of Live Exports Bill.
When residents have said am I going back to Parliament this week I’ve said, YES, there are two key debates I’ve had constituents ask me to speak in for them!
I always try to speak in Animal Welfare related topics. So today I was talking about the banning of unjustified movements of animals to go abroad, simply to be fattened for slaughter. The stress, disease and injuries animals can sustain in doing so is cruel and just not necessary.
I’ve backed Norfolk farmers, supported them with better animal welfare and banned the transporting of cattle, sheep, horses, goats and pigs with the totally unnecessary practice of exporting livestock for fattening and slaughter.
Despite 50 years of campaigning by
animal welfare charities we were unable to ban live exports as an EU member, because we were bound by the EU rules on animal transport. Now we’ve been able to deliver the change we wanted.
