North Norfolk MP makes a stand on the unlawful importation and smuggling on dogs, cats and ferrets

As a well known animal lover, I’m very proud to have stayed in Parliament today, normally a constituency day, to pass more Animal Welfare laws, specifically to stop the importing of cats and dogs under exceptionally cruel circumstances.

We are banning importing heavily pregnant dogs and cats, they suffer dreadfully on long inhumane journeys. We are banning imported mutilated dogs, those that have had their ears painfully cropped and we are banning importing cats that have been declawed. How cruel to rip out cat’s claws - so they cannot do the natural instinct of scratching.

We love our animals in North Norfolk. I will always speak up for everyone who has written to me to improve animal welfare. And of course - I took the opportunity to mention our much loved and much missed rescue cat Clapton.
