Visit to Wells RNLI

Saturday, 18 December, 2021

It was a huge privilege this morning to be shown around the new boathouse, currently under construction, at Wells RNLI. This £5m project is only possible because of the amazing generosity of donors both local and further afield.

The new station will house a brand new Shannon class lifeboat with a top speed of 25kts, making it quicker and easier to reach those in difficulties off the North Norfolk coast.

Spare a thought for the crews of our four RNLI and two independent lifeboat stations in North Norfolk over Christmas: their work never stops, and they will continue to be on call to help anyone who needs it, even if the call comes in the middle of Christmas dinner! Thank you to all of them for the vital lifesaving work they undertake throughout the year.

But don't forget to keep yourself safe. Cliff falls and winter storms can pose dangers so if you're visiting the coast, take care, wrap up warm, check the high tide time, and make sure you have a means of summoning help if you need to. In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
